What Is GPRA?

GPRA (pronounced gipra) is an acronym for Government Results and Performance Act. GPRA was unanimously passed by congress in 1993. This law requires government agencies to demonstrate measurable results or benefits gained by consumers from federal programs. Annually, each agency is required to submit an agency-specific performance plan for the new fiscal year to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) along with a fiscal year budget. This is complex in that the indicators set need to be perceived by congress and OMB as attainable but not too minimal for funding support. There were originally a total of 42 objectives; the dental program is only responsible for three.
